There is political will in Serbia to open secret files of state security services, says an official of the Serbian Justice Ministry. That would "not be a complicated process", added Slobodan Homen, who serves as the ministry's state secretary. "There's political will to open secret files" "I am confident that this can be done easily," Homen told state broadcaster RTS, commenting on reports in some media that the European Parliament will soon put in a request that Serbia adopts a law on opening secret files of the security services from the period after World War II. Pointing out that Serbia will face additional demands on its EU path, he recalled that the European Commission will monitor the work of the state bodies and the implementation of laws. Commenting on last week's visit to Brussels, Homen said that it is part of the preparations for the start of Serbia's EU talks. The European Commission listed the priorities of the process accession, not only for Serbia but for all other countries. These are primarily Chapters 23 and 24 regarding human rights, rule of law, organized crime and corruption, asylum seekers, i.e. all issue that are in jurisdiction of the Ministries of Justice and Interior, he added. Homen noted that Chapters 23 and 24 will be the first ones to be opened and the last ones to be closed. Slobodan Homen (file) RTS Tanjug
