Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic says she is ready to take over as the country's acting president, should Boris Tadic call presidential elections for May 6. Tadic would have to resign to enable for early presidential elections. Speaker "ready to take over as acting president" Parliamentary and local votes have already been scheduled for that date. Now the parliament speaker told Belgrade-based Press tabloid that she was prepared for the role, and expected support "from parliament, which has legitimacy until new members are elected, as well as from my party (SPS) and its president, Ivica Dacic". She also reassured the citizens that she did not expect "major problems or complications in the functioning of the state during that time", and revealed she "had no intention of moving to the Presidency building - unless necessary". And while Tadic's decision on this issue is awaited, the speaker said she would call a parliament session to adopt the government's proposal to abolish VAT duty on baby products. Meanwhile, Belgrade-based Politika daily editor-in-chif Dragan Bujosevic told B92 that Tadic was possibly postponing the decision for as long as he could in a bid to shorten the time for the campaign. According to Bujosevic, Tadic will most likely decide in favor of calling the presidential vote for May 6, because "if his Democrats (DS) win in the parliamentary election, Tadic could lose a lot if he remains as president until the end of his mandate" - which expires in late 2012. Speaker "ready to take over as acting president"

Parliamentary and local votes have already been scheduled for that date.

Now the parliament speaker told Belgrade-based Press tabloid that she was prepared for the role, and expected support "from parliament, which has legitimacy until new members are elected, as well as from my party (SPS) and its president, Ivica Dačić".

She also reassured the citizens that she did not expect "major problems or complications in the functioning of the state during that time", and revealed she "had no intention of moving to the Presidency building - unless necessary".

And while Tadić's decision on this issue is awaited, the speaker said she would call a parliament session to adopt the government's proposal to abolish VAT duty on baby products.

Meanwhile, Belgrade-based Politika daily editor-in-chif Dragan Bujošević told B92 that Tadić was possibly postponing the decision for as long as he could in a bid to shorten the time for the campaign.

According to Bujošević, Tadić will most likely decide in favor of calling the presidential vote for May 6, because "if his Democrats (DS) win in the parliamentary election, Tadić could lose a lot if he remains as president until the end of his mandate" - which expires in late 2012.
