Internal police investigation has shown that Igor Beneta, one of the suspects in the massacre of six elderly Serbs near Knin in August 1995, committed suicide.

Internal police investigation has shown that Igor Beneta, one of the suspects in the massacre of six elderly Serbs near Knin in August 1995, committed suicide. The Croatian police launched the investigation after certain media started speculating that Beneta was murdered based on the way his body was found and identified. Aside from Beneta, Lucko Anti-Terrorist Unit Commanders Franjo Drljo and Bozidar Krajina are also charged with the massacre of six elderly Serbs in late August 1995 in the village of Grubori and burning down almost all houses in the village. Croatia’s Interior Minister Ranko Ostojić told reporters on Thursday ahead of the government session that the investigation determined that Beneta had committed suicide by hanging.
