A Belgrade businessman was found dead over the weekend in one of the construction sites in the Belgrade neighborhood of Dedinje owned by his company. This has been confirmed by the Koling company, which is majority owned by the man, identified as Milan Zukanovic. Businessman found dead at construction site Zukanovic died of a gunshot wound to his head. Media reports this Monday said the death was "a suicide", and that the police had finished their investigation of the scene. A MUP source told Tanjug news agency that although Zukanovic possessed a registered firearm, "he shot himself from a pistol he possessed illegally". Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti writes that "the motives for the suicide are unknown for the time being, and it is unclear if he left a suicide note". The 60-year-old businessman was previously in the focus of the public in the 1990s, when his company took part in the takeover of 6,800 sq meters of premises and 78 ares of land of the Old Mill (Stari Mlin) in Belgrade, in exchange for 800 sq meters of apartments located on the city's outskirts, for a price of a million former German marks. The company has been building luxury apartments in Belgrade for over a decade, while some tabloids are now speculating that debts could have been the reason for the apparent suicide. The media reports are also saying that Zukanovic was "mentioned in relation to" the former Serbian PM and FK Partizan football club president, late Mirko Marjanovic, because his company allegedly "sold football players", i.e., handled player transfers to other clubs.
