Local Serbs in northern Kosovo today again blocked several vehicles belonging to the EU mission, EULEX, and the NATO mission, KFOR. The vehicles returned to their bases after KFOR's representatives met for talks with Serbs who held the Zvecan-Zubin Potok road blocked for more than an hour and a half on Thursday afternoon. Another condition is that EULEX should not use the cars to transport police and customs of the Kosovo authorities in Pristina to the northern checkpoints. At the same time, KFOR was asking for unconditional freedom of movement for all representatives of international missions - EULEX included. As soon as the Serbs blocked EULEX vehicles, KFOR set up a checkpoint in the village of Zeravica and proceeded to check vehicles and passengers. The Serbs blocked the road near Doljane this afternoon using their own cars. After about an hour and a half, EULEX vehicles headed back in the direction of the village of Jagnjenica, after which local Serbs removed their cars from the road and the traffic between Zvecan and Zubin Potok went back to normal. They said that they saw as provocation the movement of KFOR and EULEX vehicles, aimed at installing Kosovo's institution in northern Kosovo. Serbs are the majority population north of the Ibar River and recognize neither the authority of the government in Pristina nor the ethnic Albanian unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo made four years ago.
