Serbian government Missing Persons Commission President Veljko Odalovic says that the investigation into the organ trade in Kosovo has revealed certain leads. “There are three links that are unavoidable in the investigation into the human organ trafficking in Kosovo and Metohija and northern Albania. Those are the international community and the authorities in Pristina and Albania,” he told Jagodina-based Palma Plus TV. Missing Persons Commission head on organ trade case He stressed that reports pointed in those three directions, primarily correspondence between the UN bodies in 2003 in which roads, names and means of transportation were described in detail. Odalovic noted that the documents still existed, that they had been archived and that their validity and authenticity had not been questioned by anyone. “The international UN mission was entrusted with security, peace and protection of all citizens in Kosovo and two of its bodies (the Hague Tribunal and UNMIK) were exchanging correspondence on human organ trade, so they cannot run away from their responsibility. He pointed out that the fact that “they knew or had to know” was enough to raise an indictment. According to the Missing Persons Commission president, the most responsible link in the chain are the authorities in Pristina who used to be regional Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commanders and have been the international missions’ closest partners since 1999. “Those are prime ministers and ministers in various Kosovo governments, from 1999 until today. And all other structures of authorities in Kosovo are full of people who are steeped in crime. A procedure to determine their responsibility has not been launched against any of them,” Odalovic said. He added that the Albanian authorities must not be relieved of liability bearing in mind that they had tolerated transportation of removed organs across their territory.
