Serbian Deputy PM Ivica Dacic told Frankfurt-based Serbian language daily Vesti that it is difficult to say whether Serbia will get the EU candidate status. He added during his visit to Switzerland that everything depended on the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in Brussels. "Difficult to predict outcome of EU candidate bid" Commenting on Pristina’s request not to grant Serbia the EU candidate status, Dacic said he hoped that “our European partners will be able to assess who really is halting the dialogue”. Speaking of Switzerland, the deputy PM and interior minister stressed that the two countries’ cooperation was very good and based on several bilateral agreements. “We act jointly on revealing various types of crimes, from art theft to human and drug trafficking,” he explained. Commenting on the upcoming election campaign, Dacic said that everybody who wanted to have a “dirty” campaign were wrong because such campaign would only show what kind of people they were. “Nobody can get a vote by reducing somebody else’s value, you have to show the voters how good you are instead,” he was quoted as saying. Dacic added that he was counting on the votes from diaspora. “If everybody voted in accordance with their interests I think they would vote for the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) and United Serbia (JS). We are working in the interest of an ordinary person,” he noted. When asked whether the SPS could form a coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Dacic said that “it depends on their attitude toward the Socialists”. “SPS wants to win as many votes as possible because this is the only way it can realize its political program, every people has the government it deserves and the one who gets the majority of votes and who can form the majority will be in the government,” he concluded.
