Minister, state secretary expelled from party The party said in the release that Sreckovic and Cekovic were expelled “due to gross violation of the Statute, disrespect of the party’s decision and refusal to comply with the SPO Presidency’s request to resign from their positions in the Serbian government”. SPO stressed that the issue of Sreckovic and Cekovic had ceased to be “the party’s internal issue”, as the Democratic Party (DS) put it, and that it was a coalition issue that could only be resolved with their dismissal. According to the announcement, all SPO Presidency members, except for Cekovic, voted in favor of the proposal. Sreckovic, however, stated that no SPO Presidency meeting was held on Friday and that a decision to expel him and Cekovic therefore could not have been made. “If we get this illegal decision, that I have learnt of from the media, we will file an appeal in accordance with the SPO Statute to the Statute Commission. I am sure that the decision will be canceled because the SPO has to be a democratic party, not an autocratic one,” the minister stressed. Sreckovic noted that it would not be possible for someone to declare telephone calls a “Presidency session” because it was not in accordance with the party’s Statute. The news about the expulsion from the party came shortly after Sreckovic had stated that his and Cekovic’s mandates were at Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic’s disposal, but that they would not allow anyone to blackmail them.
