Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic has discussed the situation in Kosovo with U.S. diplomat Philip Reeker. He said after the meeting that he hoped that the parties that advocated changes in the policy toward Kosovo would get support in the new government. LDP leader calls for “change of Kosovo policy” “Present creators of the state policy at the moment do not have the strength to lead such a policy but we believe that they will find potential to at least follow us in the next government in a new approach to the Kosovo issue and the Euro-Atlantic future of Serbia,” the LDP leader pointed out. He said that the elections were important for that kind of political U-Turn and added that the LDP had an ambition to change the present policy. “The LDP will present a political option and an expression of expectation of a growing number of citizens who have had enough of the eternal hesitance and expectation of the Serbian authorities that our problems, both internal and regional, will be solved by someone from the outside, without changing anything in the Serbian policy,” Jovanovic noted. He told Reeker that his party did not support the announced referendum in northern Kosovo because it was “a continuation of a dangerous and futile policy of continuous conflicts”. Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) leader Vuk Draskovic also met with Reeker on Saturday and “requested guarantees for protection of Serbs’ rights and Serbian heritage in Kosovo and a special status for northern Kosovo, modeled after South Tyrol”. Reeker expressed U.S. support to Serbia’s Euro-Atlantic integrations and hope that the country would fulfill the remaining conditions in order to get the EU candidate status. Cedomir Jovanovic B92
