Serbia is ready to go to Brussels and continue the talks with Pristina at any moment, Belgrade team chief Borislav Stefanovic has stated. He told B92 that “is very important to have some certainty about what is going to happen to UN Security Council Resolution 1244”. Team chief: We are ready to continue talks The team head stressed that Serbia would continue to insist that Resolution 1244 must be respected because it was not only a part of Serbia’s constitutional system but also the only valid and the last adopted international document on Kosovo. “The use of Resolution 1244 is a subject of very intensive consultations, our position is very clear and publicly presented from the highest position that is what Serbia insists on and it will continue to insist on it,” he repeated. Stefanovic noted that he and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker agreed at a meeting on Friday that the negotiations needed to continue as soon as possible, adding that they did not discuss a date for the continuation of the talks since Reeker’s role “was not to determine the date now”. “We only talked about when the negotiation process in Brussels could be continued and possibilities to solve the situation with the regional representation. That’s the biggest problem, we need to focus there while sticking to Resolution 1244,” he explained. He noted that Serbia was not surprised by Pristina’s resistance to the proposal and that it “is nothing new to us”, adding that the international community’s mediation was therefore important. Stefanovic repeated that the U.S. had shown understanding for Serbian President Boris Tadic’s four-point plan. Borislav Stefanovic (Beta, file) B92
