Kosovo Albanian Self-Determination Movement members have announce they will block the Merdare and Bela Zemlja crossings at 13:00 CET on Saturday. They explained that they will only block trucks carrying goods from central Serbia to Kosovo. Kosovo, intl. officials oppose crossings blockade Self-Determination Movement leader Albin Kurti said Friday that people would be able to cross the administrative line without any problems. He stressed that the protest was not directed against Serbs in Kosovo or in Serbia, but against the state of Serbia. Kurti also accused the Kosovo government of being incompetent and that it had no will to implement Kosovo assembly’s conclusions on reciprocity in relations with Serbia. Kosovo top officials and international community representatives have condemned the decision to block the administrative crossings. Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga has expressed concern about the outcome of the blockade and stressed she is against the idea. Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci has strongly reacted against the blockade, pointing out that the Kosovo institutions will not allow situation similar to the one from last January in Albania, when two persons lost their lives, to happen in Kosovo. He added that the blockade was illegal and anti-Constitutional. “That’s an announcement of violence, the last thing Kosovo needs right now,” Thaci explained. Kosovo Albanian opposition parties also oppose the blockade, claiming that it will not solve the problems with Serbia. EU Special Representative in Kosovo Fernando Gentilini has warned that the planned action will not contribute to Kosovo’s European future and that it will not help normalize relations with Serbia. French, German, Italian, British and U.S. embassies have also expressed their concern over the announced blockade of the Merdare and Bela Zemlja crossings. Beta
