Macedonia's first president Kiro Gligorov was buried in Skopje on Tuesday without official or church ceremony. His last wish, for his funeral to be attended solely by his family, was fulfilled. Gligorov buried, commemoration in parliament The parliament held a commemorative session in the morning, which was attended by officials from all political parties and the diplomatic corps, but not Gligorov's family. Gligorov's life was the history of the Macedonian state, President Gjorge Ivanov stated at the commemoration. He said Gligorov's family should be as proud of him as the Macedonian people are. Ivanov stressed Gligorov's role in gaining independence for Macedonia and building a place for it in the international community, adding that he led the country wisely during the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.
