Vojvodina Executive Council Chairman Bojan Pajtic does not expect the EU to set recognition of Kosovo independence as a condition for Serbia's candidacy status. He told daily Vecernje novosti that Kosovo had never been a condition for Serbia's European integration, underlining that it was only normal since five EU countries had not recognized Kosovo. Vojvodina official on EU integration, elections “The postponing of the candidacy decision has surely increased the number of Euroskeptics, but 60 percent of people in Novi Sad still hope to join the EU,” said Pajtic, who is also Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader. Pointing out that the EU candidacy was a strategic, and not an electoral issue, he assessed that in the elections people would vote for those parties and persons who had a stable hand to lead the country forward. "Prime Minister (Mirko) Cvetkovic’s government managed to preserve financial stability, as well as social peace, although many other countries richer than ours did not succeed in that. I am sure the voters will know how to appreciate that," he was quoted as saying. Speaking about possible coalitions, Pajtic qualified as unrealistic ties between DS and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), as the two were completely different. He added that he had "no dilemma whatsoever" as to whether DS would win in the elections in Vojvodina. Bojan Pajtic (FoNet, file) Tanjug Vecernje novosti
