Croatian President Ivo Josipovic requested that the country's Constitutional Court should look into a law annulling legal acts passed by Yugoslavia and Serbia. Croatia seceded from Yugoslavia in 1991. Croatia: Call for review of controversial law On Tuesday, Josipovic stated that contrary to Croatia's Constitution, the law in question empowered the justice ministry to control whether or not an activity in the jurisdiction of regular courts could be carried out. He added that the law was contrary to constitutional regulations on how international treaties related to Croatian law. Prior to dissolving in October, the country's parliament passed the controversial law which annuls indictments issued by Serbia and former Yugoslavia. The bill was supported by the ruling coalition headed by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). The law was passed in response to Serbian indictments against 44 Croatian citizens, including several wartime officials and Croatian Democratic Union official Vladimir Seks. Beta
