They are members of the union from all over Serbia. At the start of the protest, the officers held a moment of silence for their colleagues killed in the line of duty. The union demands higher salaries and payment of overdue wages and travel expenses. "We want nothing more than better pay," head of the union's strike committee Dejan Djukic stated addressing the crowd. The union wants to meet with Prime Minister Mirko CvetkoviC, because they have been unable to reach an agreement with Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. The union started a strike on December 12. They respected the legally prescribed minimum level of work, meaning that their members still went out in the field in case of an emergency. The strike was radicalized recently by halting vehicle registration for public and utility company vehicles. Dacic appealed again on Monday to the union to end the strike, adding that the maximum had already been done to improve the financial situation of the police and Interior Ministry employees.
