Serbian Diaspora Minister Srđan Srećković says position of Serbs in neighboring countries was analyzed at Council for Relations with Serbs in Region session.

Serbian Diaspora Minister Srdjan Sreckovic says position of Serbs in neighboring countries was analyzed at Council for Relations with Serbs in Region session. He said that measures that could encourage preservation of Serb national identity had also been discussed at the Friday meeting. Diaspora minister on position of Serbs in region “The Council also analyzed measures for further enhancement of good neighborly relations and regional cooperation,” Sreckovic told Tanjug. “Serbia is aware of its responsibility when it comes to the stability in the region and it respects international law and sovereignty of all the countries in the region, but at the same time it has a constitutional and historical obligation to back Serbs,” he stated. Noting that the position of ethnic minorities in Serbia was on a high level, the minister pointed out that Serbia at the same time required the same principle to be respected when it came to Serbs in the region. He added that Serbs in the region had experienced an important improvement over the past few years in terms of the mother country's attitude toward them. Sreckovic recalled that the Council for Relations with Serbs in the Region was a newly-established body founded on the basis of the Law on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region and had the duty to coordinate the activities of all government bodies which had an effect on the policy toward Serbs in the area.
