Serbian President Boris Tadic conferred on Friday in Belgrade with representatives of Serbs from the region. They discussed further development of good neighborly relations and improving the position of Serbian communities in the region, Tadic's press office said. Tadic meets representatives of Serbs from region Tadic said that Serbia is aware of its responsibility in preserving national identity and reiterated that Serbs should be loyal citizens of the states in which they live. Representatives of Serbs from the region expressed their full understanding and support for Serbia's efforts to have the situation in Kosovo and Metohija resolved through dialogue and by peaceful means. They also welcomed the decision taken at today's session of the Council of the Republic of Serbia for Relations with Serbs in the Region related to the reduction of consular fees for receiving and release from citizenship of Serbia. They described as a good step the project of the Ministry of Education regarding the granting of scholarships to Serbs from neighboring countries. The meeting was attended by Serb Republic (RS) President Milorad Dodik, deputy leader of the Independent Serb Democratic Party in Croatia Milorad Pupovac and leader of the Socialist People's Party of Montenegro Srdjan Milic. Also present were representatives of Serbs from the RS, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Hungary, Albania, Slovenia and Romania. The Council meetings are held regularly for several years, with leading figures from political organizations, cultural institutions and non-governmental sector participating. According to the announcement issued by the Diaspora and Religion Ministry, a gala concert entitled “Holiday Gift - Concert of Serbs from Romania and Hungary” will be staged in the Ilija Kolarac Endowment on Friday evening and the exhibition of Serbs living and working in the two countries would also be opened in Belgrade, where more than a hundred artists will present their craftsmanship to the audience in their motherland. The gala concert is organized by the Ministry in cooperation with the Association of Serbs in Romania and the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary. Save for the representatives of Serbs from regional countries, the concert will be attended by senior government officials, church dignitaries, diplomatic representatives and figures from the world of art, culture and sport.
