Serbia is going to make those decisions it sees as the most suitable for both the people in Kosovo and central Serbia, says Dragan Sutanovac. The so called parallel institutions in northern Kosovo cannot be dismantled in one fell swoop, said the defense minister. Parallel structures can't go overnight - DM Commenting on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement on Monday that Serbia should dismantle the parallel institutions in northern Kosovo, Sutanovac remarked he believed the Serbian government would make the best decision. "The government will review the issues regarding Serbia's development in the future," he told reporters at the Military Medical Academy. Serbia is on the European path, he noted, adding that "it is a fact there is a political obstacle in that path," which Merkel had mentioned. "That is the disassembly of parallel institutions, and the issue has to be approached analytically... It cannot be done in one fell swoop, because for a great number of years there were ethnic Albanian parallel institutions in Kosovo in health care and education," he pointed out. "I think we are going to insist that the protection of human rights and education stay as a safe anchor for Serbia in Kosovo, since it is simply unacceptable to have children subjected to the Kosovo curricula," said Sutanovac. Markel said in Pristina on Monday it was necessary to find a solution to the conflicts in northern Kosovo and that Serbia should fulfill the requests she had made in Belgrade back in summer, but that Kosovo should also make its contribution to solving the problems.
