International Civilian Representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith says the EU will probably ask Serbia to abolish the so-called parallel structures in the north. He explained on Tuesday that the EU member states would request abolition of the parallel structures before they adopt a decision on Serbia's EU candidate status in February. “Parallel structure abolition condition for status” “European countries will insist on abolition of parallel police and security and administrative structures before the decision on the candidate status is adopted,” Feith said during the talks with reporters from central Serbia's editorial staffs. He underscored that the solution to the northern Kosovo issue should be sought by establishing contacts between the Pristina government and the Serb community in northern Kosovo. “The Kosovo government will take first steps in the time to come with a view to appointing coordinators in charge of communication and coordination in Pristina and enhancement of this process,” Feith stated. He noted that the northern Kosovo issue was very complex due to organized crime and corruption that have taken root in the Serb community over the past ten years, which is another reason for them to oppose changes.
