President Tadić starts one-day Italy trip

Serbian President Boris Tadić on Monday began his one-day visit to Italy by meeting with President of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Renzo Tondo.

Serbian President Boris Tadic on Monday began his one-day visit to Italy by meeting with President of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Renzo Tondo. During the day he will meet with province's officials and management of companies that are doing business or will invest in Serbia. President Tadic starts one-day Italy trip Tadic met with Tondo in Trieste because it was determined by a Italian Ministry of Internal Affairs' decree that the province should maintain special relations with Serbia. While Serbia and Italy have 130-year-long diplomatic relations, Serbia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia have an even longer tradition of relations. Namely, two centuries ago, Serbian families participated in the creation and development of the banking and insurance sector, as well as trade relations in Trieste. After the short visit to Trieste, President Tadic will depart for Udine, where he will meet with Gianpietro Benedetti, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Danieli company. Later on Monday, the president will confer with Chairman of Benetton Group Luciano Benetton in Treviso. Italy has been a first-class trade partner of Serbia for years, and according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the trade between the two countries could reach the record sum of USD 3 billion in 2011. Back in November 2009, prime ministers of Serbia and Italy signed the Declaration of Strategic Cooperation. (Tanjug, file)
