Ivica Dacic has said that the issue of the Kosovo status was vital and therefore "dealing with it can no longer be avoided". This is because the issue "is now certain to be presented more and more as a strict condition for Serbia's European integration," stated the deputy prime minister and minister of the interior in the current Serbian government. "Kosovo status issue should not be avoided" Ahead of the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialog in Brussels on Monday, Dacic told reporters in the town of Trebinje, RS, that it was in Serbia's best interest to have the Kosovo and Metohija crisis and all technical issues resolved as soon as possible. “It is crucial to implement the agreements reached so far and to find solutions to open issues, such as the problem of the administrative crossings, which is still causing instability, particularly in the Kosovo north,” Dacic said on Sunday. Dacic stressed that Belgrade wanted an agreement with Pristina that would be in line with the Serbian Constitution, pointing out that “Serbia cannot accept Kosovo independence either directly or indirectly” and that “it has the right to state its state and national interests.” While noting that Serbia should accept all viable practical solutions, Dacic said he fully backed the Kosovo and Metohija Serbs in their not being willing to live in an independent Kosovo. “Who can deny them the right? Why has the right been recognized in the case of the Albanians, who did not want to live in the Republic of Serbia?” Dacic asked.
