The government should call parliamentary elections immediately after Dec. 9, when the EU will decide on Serbia's candidate status, says an opposition official. This should be the outcome because the government does not have a unified state and national policy, deputy leader of New Serbia (NS) Dubravka Filipovski said on Tuesday. "This government has already collapsed" “The Serbian government has already collapsed, but the representatives of the ruling coalition have not got the strength face the citizens with the truth. It has fallen because there is no unity in the government and parliament about a consolidated state and national policy,” Filipovski told a news conference. Filipovski added “the serious problems that the government is facing” to the reasons for the government's failure and called on the government to inform the citizens about any of the measures it had taken to protect the country against the announced new wave of economic crisis and to say if Serbia' financial stability was threatened. She said it was unacceptable to announce the adoption of a declaration on Kosovo and Metohija as it seemed quite unlikely that the document had any future whatsoever. “This shows that the government not only lacks the unity, but also that it lacks the solidity needed for the adoption of an important document that would be a roadmap for further negotiations and ways of pursuing state policy,” Filipovski said. She believes Monday's statements by Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and For a European Serbia whip Nada Kolundzija that the draft document will not be put before MPs because there was no broad consensus on the issue are only excuses for the lack of strength on the part of the ruling coalition. “I am calling for ending the agony and for telling the citizens the truth,” Filipovski said, stressing that the government should “draw the line, admit defeat and call early elections.” Dubravka Filipovski (Tanjug, file)
