Serbian President Boris Tadic has commented on the appearance of Russian Ambassador Aleksandar Konuzin at a Serb Progressive Party (SNS) rally. It is not common practice for diplomats to speak at party gatherings, said the president. "Unusual for diplomats to address rallies" The opposition party was holding its gathering in southern Serbia last weekened, while Tadic, who heads the ruling Democrats (DS), spoke on Tuesday: "It is not common practice for diplomats to address party gatherings, however it is common practice for them to attend party meetings, and I'd leave it at that." Tadic made the comment while speaking to journalists after the meeting with visiting Romanian President Traian Basescu. The Russian ambassador stated at the SNS meeting in Nis on Saturday that the party had become one of the chief indicators of the Serbian public opinion, gaining the ability to make plans for the whole nation, but also assuming the responsibility that comes with the trust and expectations the people invest in the SNS. Some appraised that his participation in the rally and the messages heard from the envoy constituted meddling in Serbian internal affairs, while the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday supported the ambassador.
