The police administration in the town of Novi Sad on Tuesday held memorial service for police officer Sinisa Hrnjez, who was killed while on duty last week. Hrnjez was killed while responding to a domestic violence report in the Stari Ledinci village near Novi Sad on Sunday, after a hand grenade was thrown at him and another officer. Prior to the funeral, members of three police unions held a protest walk to draw attention of authorized bodies to the increasingly frequent attacks aimed against police officers. President of the Union of the Serbian Police Nenad Ljubicic stated that the protest is aimed at drawing attention of the public and the authorities to the judiciary's mild penalty policy towards the perpetrators of criminal acts of attack on police officers. In front ot the Police Administration in Novi Sad, where the protest walk started, Ljubicic recalled that over 9,000 attacks on police officers on duty have been registered in the past five years. The protest walk was organized by the Union of the Serbian Police, Independent Trade Union of Police, and Police Union of Serbia.
