Branimir Glavas, a convicted war criminal, will head an election list in the forthcoming elections in Croatia, according to reports. Glavas, who is currently serving eight years in prison for the murder and torture of Serb civilians that took place in the early 1990s, heads the list of the party he founded - the Croat Democratic Council for Slavonia and Baranja. He also accused "(former PM) Ivo Sanader and the HDZ" of "setting up" Glavas, when it came to the war crimes verdict and sentence. The original sentence handed down to Glavas was ten years, but the Croatian Supreme Court reduced it to eight years in prison. Glavas was found guilty of war crimes committed against Serb civilians in the town of Osijek in 1991. Currently, he is serving his prison term in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as he also holds the citizenship of that country, to which he escaped before the court ruled in the case.
