The opposition SNS party could enter a coalition with the pensioner party (PUPS) after parliamentary elections, expected to take place next spring. This is according to SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic, who also identified the ethnic Hungarian SVM as a party he perceived as "true partners in the future". SNS "could team up with PUPS" after elections The Serb Progressives (SNS) is one of the most popular parties in the country according to opinion polls. However this offshoot of the Serb Radicals (SRS) is yet to be tested in parliamentary elections. PUPS, meanwhile, is currently one of the parties participating in the ruling coalition, who ahead of last elections in 2008 formed a coalition with the Socialists (SPS). Speaking during a news conference in Belgrade on Monday, Vucic first revealed that "there was someone in the ruling coalition" that his party could "realistically cooperate with", and described them as "small, but very important". Finally, he identified the party by name, and commended PUPS for "lying to me much less than others". Vucic also said the SNS had "correct relations" with Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), but that there was no discussion yet about any possible election alliances. As for the country's trade unions, Vucic said his party was "not discussing political cooperation" with them, focusing only on "the position of workers". The SNS official ruled out cooperation with Rasim Ljajic's SDPS - "because he already chose to cooperate with another party" - and also said an alliance was not possible with Mladjan Dinkic's URS. Vucic stated that the Progressives had a ten percent lead over the Democrats (DS) in the latest opinion poll, but did not reveal who conducted the survey. He once again called on the government to resign due to its failures. Meanwhile, the opposition DSS party said that they would decide on any possible future coalitions after elections. Spokesman Petar Petkovic said that those discussions "would include the SNS". Petkovic confirmed that the party would compete in the next election alone, and added: "If we make deals ahead of elections, what do we need elections for?"
