Officials, parties condemn mufti’s call for census boycott

Novi Pazar officials and political parties have reacted to Chief Mufti Muamer Zukorlic’s call to Bosniaks to boycott the upcoming census. The Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak (SDA) has stated that the move was “reckless and dangerous“. Officials, parties condemn mufti’s call for census boycott Novi Pazar Mayor Meho Mahmutovic has said that Zukorlic’s move shows that he does not at all care about Bosniaks. The mayor stressed that the mufti only had “his own personal interests” in mind and that he was not interested in Novi Pazar, the Islamic community or the Bosniaks. “The man chose only his own personal interests regardless of the amount of damage both to the city of Novi Pazar and Bosniaks, and all others who live and work in the city,” Mahmutovic pointed out. SDA’s Resad Hodzic says his party “cannot wait” for the census to begin. “We want to come out as full-fledged and normal citizens with a real figure and the whole number once the results are summed up. I think there is a lot more of us now than at the latest census and I think that calls for the boycott are simply against interests of the Bosniaks in this country,” he stressed.
