Bosniaks in Serbia will boycott the forthcoming population census, the Bosniak National Council Presidency has decided. The Bosniak National Council Presidency is controlled by Islamic Community in Serbia Chief Mufti Muamer Zukorlic. Bosniak National Council calls for census boycott The council stated that the Bosniaks could take part in the census if the Council officials be given the right to participate in all the bodies for the implementation and control of the census, as well as if new forms be released in Bosnian language and Latin alphabet. The decision was preceded by evaluation that adequate conditions for implementation of the census were not fulfilled. The current practice shows that the number of Bosniaks and Muslims has been permanently reduced and falsified, which creates confusion in establishing the national, religion and language identity, the statement reads. The census forms, contrary to the Constitution and laws, were released only in Serbian language and Cyrillic alphabet, the Bosniak National Council pointed out in the statement, calling on the Islamic community and institutions to boycott the forthcoming census. The Council has called on the Islamic community, the Sandzak National Council and other national organizations and institutions to participate in the campaign aimed at boycotting the census. The Bosniak National Council, which is not recognized by the Republic of Serbia, was founded in July 2010 by Zukorlic. The population and housing census in Serbia will begin on October 1.
