Former Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic says he was the one who requested the Serbian government to terminate a contract for purchase of swine flu vaccines. The former minister stated Thursday that he would press charges due to malversations and lynch against him involving the vaccine procurement. Ex-health minister on flu vaccine affair In a written statement submitted to B92, he said that a decision to terminate the contract had been made at a government telephone session due to lack of citizens’ interest to get vaccinated. According to media, arrested Republic Institute for Health Insurance (RZZO) Director Svetlana Vukajlovic claims that she was the one who initiated termination of the contract and that the former health minister was against it. According to daily Blic, Milosavljevic believed at the time that “it is still early to cancel a part of the order”. “It should be determined by an investigation whether or not this governmental decision was carried out by the Republic Institute for Health Insurance,” Milosaljevic said on Thursday. “The Serbian government and I, as a health minister, did everything in our might to protect the citizens of Serbia following the recommendations of the World Health Organization and an expert working group during pandemics that claimed lives of 140 people, including ten pregnant women, while thousands of people were in intensive care units and on respirators,” Milosavljevic underlined. He added that he believed that the legal bodies would determine the truth and all facts regarding this case. Several individuals were interrogated early in August in connection to frauds in vaccine procurement, including Milosavljevic, Vukajlovic and epidemiologist Predrag Kon.
