The Serbian president's cabinet on Monday strongly denied that Boris Tadic was planning to meet with Hashim Thaci while in New York for the UN General Assembly. The claim was made in today's edition of the Albania language newspaper Zeri, published in Pristina. Tadic's cabinet rejects speculation about Thaci meeting "A meeting between President Tadic and Thaci has not been planned, is not possible, and will not happen," Beta news agency was told by officials of the president's cabinet. They also stressed that "the real address for solving the situation in northern Kosovo was the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina under EU mediation". The Pristina newspaper today quoted "diplomatic sources" in that town to write that the Kosovo Albanian prime minister and the Serbian president would meet, that "an agreement on the removal of barricades from northern Kosovo's roads" could be reaches after this meeting, and that it would take place "in the presence of high representatives of the EU and U.S.". The daily further asserted that "the reaching of this agreement" was the reason Thaci had traveled to New York, "leaving Kosovo at a time of high tensions in the north". Local Serbs there reject the authority of the government in Pristina, and have responded by setting up road blocks to the Friday helicopter transport of several members of Kosovo police and customs to the Brnjak and Jarinje checkpoints, located on the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia.
