EU to discuss Serbia’s proposal for Kosovo next week

Belgrade's initiative for a solution to the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings in northern Kosovo will be considered next week, diplomatic sources in Brussels say. The letter in which Belgrade's negotiating team laid out new proposals for calming tensions in northern Kosovo arrived in Brussels late, so officials will not study it before next week, an EU official who wanted to remain anonymous told Tanjug on Saturday. EU to discuss Serbia’s proposal for Kosovo next week The letter arrived Friday afternoon, after most officials had already left for the weekend, the source explained, adding he did not expect Belgrade's initiative to be discussed in urgent proceedings. The source refused to comment on the content of the initiative, but said the EU continued to support the dialogue between the two sides on technical issues. On September 16 the Pristina authorities sent customs and police officers to the two crossings, but the actual control is still performed by EULEX members. Local Serbs responded by blocking roads and the crossings still remain closed.
