Members of the European Parliament Intergroup on LGBT Rights, including Ulrike Lunacek and Jelko Kacin, sent an open letter to top Serbian officials. It expressed support to the organizers of this year's Pride Parade and urged the authorities to ensure security at the event, the organizing committee has announced. MEPs support Belgrade Pride Parade The letter says the EP members understand last year's attacks had a clear political message, reminding that the targets included headquarters of ruling parties, the ombudsman's office and the public media service, Radio and Television of Serbia. The letter stressed that supporting this year's parade and ensuring the highest level of security at the event will send a clear message that Serbia is ready to guarantee everyone's constitutional right to freedom of assembly and expression and the right to be protected from discrimination.
