Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic has called on the government to step down due to poor economic situation in the country. He also called on Serbian President Boris Tadic to call early elections. Opposition party in new push for elections “The Serbian Progressive Party believes that Serbia is in the deepest economic crisis in its modern history and demands from the government to resign and from the president to inform the Serbian parliament about the situation and then call the elections,” the SNS deputy leader told a press conference on Wednesday. Vucic said that an indicator of the poor economic situation was the fact that the industrial production had dropped by 5.7 percent from May until July. He pointed out that the country was over indebted and said that every new day the government spent in office was a loss for Serbia and its citizens. “The government is waiting for a new model of Fiat to be made in order for it to go to the elections, to call a couple of actors to go for a ride with them in the new model and that will mean that Serbia is moving forward,” the SNS deputy leader stated. Aleksandar Vucic “People created SNS, not DS” Commenting on media reports and cables published by WikiLeaks which claim that Tadic’s cabinet initiated founding of the SNS, Vucic said that the allegations were “stupid and illiterate”. “The Serbian Progressive Party was created by the people, it was created as people’s necessary need and (SNS leader) Tomislav Nikolic organized it,” he pointed out. “There is a campaign against the SNS, from allegations that we are secret agents of (former Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan) Milosevic’s special police to allegations that Tadic created the party for us and that we were financed by CIA on one and by (former Libyan leader Muammar) Gaddafi on the other side,” the SNS deputy leader stressed. He told the authorities that such campaign “will not save them and that they will lose power”.
