As of September, EULEX will launch an investigation into human organ trafficking allegations, UNMIK Chief Farid Zarid has said. At a UN Security Council meeting in New York Tuesday, he said that a special investigative task force had already been established and should launch its investigations in September, the Austrian news agency APA reported. UNMIK: Organ trade investigation in September The APA recalled that several hundred prisoners, according to the findings of former chief prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal Carla Del Ponte, suffered inhuman treatment by members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) between 1998 and 2000 in the north of Kosovo, and that following the maltreatment they vanished without trace. The news agency also underlined that, according to Marty's report, Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is involved in illegal activities. The report revealed that organs were taken from the victims and then illegally sold in the black market. American diplomat John Clint Williamson was appointed Monday as lead prosecutor for the EULEX special investigative task force that is to look into human organ trafficking allegations presented in Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty’s report, which was first made public in December 2010.
