The UN Security Council has postponed its meeting on Kosovo for Tuesday morning, according to what Tanjug has learned at the UN headquarters. The meeting was scheduled for Monday morning, but the problems caused by inclement weather in New York resulted in the postponement. UN Security Council meeting on Kosovo postponed The earliest available date was Tuesday. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will present his quarterly report on Kosovo during the meeting, but the focus is expected to be on the recent crisis in the north of Kosovo, which started late July as the Pristina authorities attempted to take over administrative crossings with central Serbia. Although the report only covers the period ending with July 15, the council will be informed about the latest events by Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo Farid Zarif, while the ambassadors will have an opportunity to present their countries' views. The Serbian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who told Tanjug earlier he expected an extremely difficult session, since the members of the council were divided regarding the presidential statement proposed by Russia. The statement condemns the Kosovo Albanian authorities for its use of force and demands the situation be reverted back to its original state. The document also calls on all international agencies in Kosovo, including NATO's Kosovo Force and the EU Mission in Kosovo, to adhere strictly to their mandate and UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The case of organ trafficking in the province was also to be discussed at the session, but Jeremic did not expect that the draft Serbian resolution - calling for a UN mandated probe into allegations that the ethnic Albanian KLA committed the atrocities - would be put up for voting. However, the minister noted that the Security Council would have to take a stand on this by the end of the year. Dacic "does not expect much" Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dacic said Sunday that the Tuesday meeting of the UN Security Council, dedicated to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, will not yield significant results due to the stands of the countries which are backing Kosovo. Dacic told Tanjug in Komiric near Osecina (western Serbia) that he does not expect anything from the UN SC meeting, because he is of the opinion that the countries which “condoned Pristina's recent moves will not allow any conclusion that would go below that level.” According to Dacic, this is a no-win situation - neither can Pristina fully realize its independence, nor can Serbia put forward and arrive at decisions which would confirm Serbia's sovereignty and integrity (in Kosovo-Metohija) in international institutions because the other side would veto them. For that reason, “a compromise should be reached as soon as possible, but added that “a compromise does not depend on one side only.” “Above all, a long term solution must be just. That is the only way to reach an agreement,” Dacic said.

The earliest available date was Tuesday.

The Serbian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić, who told Tanjug earlier he expected an extremely difficult session, since the members of the council were divided regarding the presidential statement proposed by Russia.

Dačić "does not expect much"

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dačić said Sunday that the Tuesday meeting of the UN Security Council, dedicated to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, will not yield significant results due to the stands of the countries which are backing Kosovo.

Dačić told Tanjug in Komiric near Osecina (western Serbia) that he does not expect anything from the UN SC meeting, because he is of the opinion that the countries which “condoned Pristina's recent moves will not allow any conclusion that would go below that level.”

According to Dačić, this is a no-win situation - neither can Priština fully realize its independence, nor can Serbia put forward and arrive at decisions which would confirm Serbia's sovereignty and integrity (in Kosovo-Metohija) in international institutions because the other side would veto them.

For that reason, “a compromise should be reached as soon as possible, but added that “a compromise does not depend on one side only.”

“Above all, a long term solution must be just. That is the only way to reach an agreement,” Dačić said.
