Gay rights group calls for prevention of violence

The Gay-Straight Alliance has expressed concern about increased number of attacks or attempted attacks on LGBT persons in the last several weeks. The last of four reported physical attacks on LGBT people took place in the night of August 26-27 in Belgrade when two men attacked a 20-year-old gay man, who suffered a serious head contusion, multiple bruises and cuts. The attack was immediately reported to police and the Gay-Straight Alliance. Gay rights group calls for prevention of violence The organization has called on police and other competent authorities to identify the perpetrators of this and other attacks and bring them to justice. The Gay-Straight Alliance requests from the competent institutions to devote their attention to prevention and sanctioning of violence against LGBT persons, especially ahead and on the day of the gay Pride Parade and to do everything in their power to prevent last year’s violence from happening again. It is the state’s responsibility to deal with prevention and reduction of violence on a daily basis and not only to note that it exists and represents a threat to stability of the entire society, the Gay-Straight Alliance pointed out.
