Three persons died when a train traveling on an international line hit a passenger car near the town of Novi Sad, north of Belgrade, reports said on Monday. The accident happened when the driver of the car attempted to "drive under a closed railroad crossing", located between the Kisac and Zmajevo stations, Serbian Railways said in a statement. Unofficial reports said that the victims were three high school teachers from the town of Vrbas.According to initial reports, the train was traveling at a legal speed, while the secured crossing was closed.
The traffic was interrupted on the line for several hours this morning, with four more international and local passenger trains, and one international freight train resuming their trips shortly after noon on Monday.
In a separate accident near Novi Sad, the driver of a passenger car died when their vehicle collided with a city bus.
