UN Security Council debate on Kosovo could be postponed due to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s two day visit to Serbia, daily Vecernje novosti has learned. According to the daily, the UN Security Council session will not be held on August 24 and it will probably be held a week later. Daily: Security Council debate on Kosovo could be delayed Since the German chancellor will visit Belgrade on August 22-23 it would be practically impossible for Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic to get to New York in time for the debate on the crisis in north Kosovo. A possibility to reschedule the UN Security Council meeting for August 29 is currently being considered, so the foreign minister would be able to present Serbian authorities’ official position regarding the latest events in Kosovo, the daily writes. “We expect a constructive debate of the Security Council member states’ ambassadors and possible adoption of a presidential announcement that would clearly condemn the violence,” Serbian Ambassador to the UN Fedor Starcevic told Vecernje novosti. New UNMIK Chief Farid Zarif will first submit a regular three-month report on situation in Kosovo and it is expected that the largest part of his address would deal with the situation in the north of the province. The Serbian foreign minister will point out that it is important that the international community condemns Pristina’s latest unilateral moves. Belgrade especially relies on Russian ambassador's speech. Russia has so far always requested decisive actions from the UN Security Council. Starcevic stressed that Serbia had not given up on the request to adopt a resolution that would ensure that the investigation into human organ trafficking is conducted under the UN mandate. “At the Security Council meeting in the end of August we will ‘refresh’ this issue, but we will not insist that members make a final decision. The debate on the events in Kosovo itself is extremely important and we may end up burdening the meeting with important issues if we insist on the organ trafficking,” he pointed out.
