Some EU and U.S. representatives have requested from the Serbian authorities to let Pristina take control over northern Kosovo, daily Blic writes. They say this is a condition Serbia must fulfill in order to be able to continue its EU integration. Daily: Northern Kosovo condition for Serbia’s EU integration Blic has learned that this was an unofficial request made by the EU officials. Fulfillment of the action plan and obligations toward the Hague Tribunal will only enable Serbia to get the EU candidate status but chances to get a date for the beginning of the accession negotiations are slimmer than ever, the daily writes. “They are not only requesting a dialogue on technical issues from Belgrade, but also that Serbia makes concrete steps that will allow full integration of northern Kosovo with the remaining parts of the province. The policy’s creator is actually Robert Cooper, a facilitator in the Belgrade-Pristina negotiations. No EU official will publically say it, but that’s what they are asking from Serbia during unofficial talks,” the daily’s source from the Serbian government was quoted as saying. The source pointed out that the U.S., whose policy in the EU is followed by Great Britain, the Netherlands and Germany, was insisting on it.
