Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic has warned about dangerous situation due to Pristina’s decision to transfer police commanders in the north. "Retaliation will not lead to the improvement of the situation, as municipal structures are not allowed to appoint police commanders," Ivanovic told daily Politika. Official warns about dangerous situation in north Kosovo "I hope that EULEX will realize the danger of this situation, which can only bring confusion among the citizens, and I am strongly convinced that EULEX will directly interfere in the solving of the problem," he was quoted as saying. Pointing out that the Kosovo Police Force (KPS) and the Serbian side had opposing positions, he stated that "the commanders who were suspended by the decision of KPS Director Reshat Maliqi have to appeal to EULEX, which will then get the opportunity to act." On May 26, Maliqi made a decision on the rotation of police commanders, that had not been recognized by police officers from northern Kosovo, which is why they were penalized by paid suspension and later dismissed. Maliqi's decision forced the leadership of four Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo to return the dismissed police commanders to their jobs in police stations in that part of the province.
