Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic stated on Friday that Serbia could not accept to be conditioned by Kosovo regarding its further progress on the EU path. “This is a condition that Serbia cannot meet,” the minister told reporters after signing the agreement between the Serbian Foreign Ministry and EU enlargement office. Citizens’ will about Kosovo must be respected, FM says Referring to the rejection of the Kosovo Albanian unilateral declaration of independence, he said it was the country's obligation as defined in the Constitution, and that it was also the will of a great majority of citizens. Reflecting on the Thursday meeting with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle, in response to reporters' question as to whether the foreign official reiterated the stand which Bundestag MPs voiced during their recent visit to Belgrade, Jeremic said that the talks with Westerwelle covered all issues important for the two countries' relations, including the Kosovo issue. “The future status of Serbia's southern province is an issue on which Serbia and Germany do not have a joint opinion,” he stressed and added that during the talks his colleague had reiterated Germany's official stand, which was recently voiced by representatives of the German government and German ambassador in Belgrade following the visit by German MPs. The minister said that the difference in opinion between Serbia and other countries when it came to the Kosovo issue should not pose an obstacle to Serbia's path toward building a European society. “Our joint goal is for the Balkans to be stable and harmonized with the rest of Europe, and we will work on this aim but we will not struggle to tackle tasks that cannot be met,” he explained.
