The fifth round of Belgrade-Pristina talks has begun in Brussels and it is expected that the first concrete results will be reached. Belgrade and Pristina representatives will not sign any agreements but they will accept a political agreement proposed by Robert Cooper on behalf of the European Union (EU). Fifth round of Belgrade-Pristina talks begins Belgrade negotiating team head Borislav Stefanovic expects that concrete agreements on freedom of movement, birth records, cadastre, energy and customs seals will be reached. “We have found a model that does not include recognition of Kosovo independence and it solves people’s life problems,” he told B92. Stefanovic said that there was a possibility to leave the issue of telecommunication and faculty diplomas for the next meeting in July, adding that they “will try to solve all issues in September”. “The Serbian government will not recognize Kosovo’s independence,” he repeated and stressed that so-called Kosovo passports and license plates would not be recognized in Serbia. “A passport is an ultimate state symbol,” he said and pointed out that ID cards were not the same as passports and that they could be recognized, as it is the case with China and Taiwan or Cyprus. He added that the Serbian government had been saying since the beginning that Kosovo travel documents and passports could not be accepted as valid documents by Serbian authorities. Belgrade negotiating team head Borislav Stefanović expects that concrete agreements on freedom of movement, birth records, cadastre, energy and customs seals will be reached.
