The recognition of Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence is not a condition for Serbia's EU membership, Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi said. He added that as regards the country's EU integration, the authorities in Belgrade should continue with the implementation of reforms and the dialogue with Pristina. Kosovo is not condition for EU, says Hungarian FM "I recall that high representatives of the Council of Europe, and the European Commission confirmed that the recognition of Kosovo is not a condition for Serbia's progress towards the EU. However, the EU is consistent in its demands that EU aspirant countries should have close ties with their neighbors and participate actively in regional cooperation," said Martonyi. In an interview to the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti, Martonyi said that he is of the opinion that ideas about Kosovo's partition are not realistic proposals or likely to gain support. "I, as well as the EU, expect from the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue the results that would contribute to strengthening of stability and regional cooperation, which will bring a sustainable solution for concrete, everyday problems, with the support for the functioning of the system of international institutions in Kosovo," Martonyi said.
