Parliament amends law on local self-government funding
The Serbian parliament adopted Monday the amendments to the law on local self-government funding, put forth by Mlađan Dinkić's United Regions of Serbia.

The Serbian parliament adopted Monday the amendments to the law on local self-government funding, put forth by Mladjan Dinkic's United Regions of Serbia. Out of 127 MPs, 108 voted in favor of the amendments. Parliament amends law on local self-government funding The amendments state that the local governments will get 80 instead of the current 40 percent of the payroll tax starting from October 1. Belgrade, as the most developed local self-government will get 70 percent of the payroll tax instead of the 80 prescribed by the law. Belgrade is going to be the only self-government that will not receive any funds from the state budget. Instead, that money will go to all the other self-governments, with the poorest getting the biggest share. The poor municipalities will receive the same funds from the national budget as before. Local projects will be funded from the local budget, not the national. However, the least developed self-governments will be able to request funds for such projects from national institutions, government companies, agencies and other state-run organizations, as well as international funds.
