Interior Minister Ivica Dacic on Thursday attended a celebration and a drill staged on Mt. Goc, in central Serbia, by the Interior Ministry (MUP) Gendarmerie. Gendarmes, Dacic told them and their commanders gathered at the mountain, "are one of the fundamental parts of the security system in the fight against crime and terrorism, preserving territorial integrity, assisting citizens and maintaining law and order". Dacic also noted that its officers guard the Ground Safety Zone along the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia, "and ensure public order and peace in the country". Dacic stressed the importance of international cooperation for the Gendarmerie and according to reports, "expressed the hope that its members will soon take part in EU peacekeeping missions".
