Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev started his two-day visit to Serbia on Wednesday - today he and Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic will be in Novi Sad. Yesterday, Aliyev told a joint news conference in Belgrade that cooperation between the two countries had significantly stepped up lately, and that this visit showed that relations between them had strategic importance. The relevant officials of the two countries signed agreements on cooperation in emergency situations, customs operations, protection of investments, education and culture, and memorandums of cooperation in agriculture, industry, energy and air transportation. In the afternoon, Tadic and Aliyev opened the reconstructed Tasmajdan Park in Belgrade, where they unveiled the monument of the former president of Azerbaijan, Heidar Aliyev. The park was reconstructed with financial help from Azerbaijan. Also on Wednesday, Ilham Aliyev formally opened the country's embassy to Serbia, in the presence of representatives of the governments of two countries, diplomatic corps and religious communities.
