Agriculture Minister Dusan Petrovic says it is not true that the government has caved in to farmers’ requests because it will pay a part of subsidies in 2012. He says that the decision was made by the government after a meeting of ruling parties’ leaders, who decided that farmers will get RSD 14,000 per hectare for farms up to 30 hectares in 2011. Minister denies caving in to farmers “The remainder for farmers who have between 30 and 100 hectares will be paid by January 31, 2012,” the minister told daily Blic. “We carry out a policy that we have assessed we should carry out, and the fact that the decision on subsidies was made unanimously in the coalition shows that there are no dilemmas regarding important issues,” he was quoted as saying.
