"More intensive cooperation between MUP and EULEX"

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and EULEX Chief Xavier Bout de Marnhac met in Belgrade on Wednesday. They pointed to the need for more intensive cooperation between the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) and EULEX, according to reports. "More intensive cooperation between MUP and EULEX" The officials underscored the need for more intensive meetings on operative and top levels so that information relevant to tangible police activities could be exchanged more easily, which would contribute to raising the level of general security on both sides of the administrative boundary with Kosovo-Metohija, the Serbian MUP said after the meeting. Dacic underlined that there is still room for enhancement of cooperation with EULEX and that contacts and exchange of information need to be intensified since the Serbian MUP is the only government institution with which the EULEX mission has signed the Protocol on cooperation. He pointed out that it is especially important to exchange information with a view to preventing all forms of criminal activities on both sides of the administrative line. Marnhac said that EULEX is working on drafting maps and tracing routes used for illegal border crossing, smuggling and all other forms of crime, the release notes. With regard to illegal human organ trafficking in Kosovo-Metohija, the EULEX chief said that this was "a sensitive matter which EULEX approached seriously from the very beginning", and added that official Brussels is carefully monitoring the developments in this area. Marnhac also said that preliminary investigation into the crime believed to have been perpetrated by ethnic Albanians was "underway", said the statement. Representatives of Serbia and EULEX defined and agreed on hot areas - administrative lines areas where authorities registered the greatest number of criminal activities. Special attention will be attached to illegal crossings of the administrative border, clarification of war crimes cases and fight against organized crime, the Serbian MUP stated in the release.
