Minister of Culture Predrag Markovic and Director of the National Library of Serbia Sreten Ugricic presented the reconstructed interior of the library. Markovic said that the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is celebrated throughout the Slavic world as the Day of Slavic Literacy and Culture, was an appropriate time to present the library to the public. Refurbished and redecorated rooms have been designed for users: entrance hall with access counter, cafeteria, central reading room with the news desk, sanitary facilities on three levels and the main reading room with 378 seats, multimedia reading room and reading room for the blind and visually impaired, science reading room and reading room for special collections with 600 seats. Ugricic said that the National Library of Serbia now has refurbished 6,000 square meters of space and 50 percent more reading places, unlimited access to the Internet and millions of digital library collections. Ugricic told Tanjug that the gathering of necessary documents to obtain the occupancy permit for the building will start tomorrow. The installation of the electronic equipment worth EUR 250,000, obtained as a donation, will start simultaneously, he said. (Beta)
