Serbian President Boris Tadic said Saturday the country would continue its fight against all forms of crime with strengthened resolve. He attended the ceremony marking the day of the Interior Ministry's anti-terrorist unit, where he stated he wished to send a message to criminals that the government would continue persecuting them. Serbia to continue combat against crime, president says "We are going to persecute criminals wherever they are in the world. We are going to arrest them and our prosecutors are going to do their job, while the courts, as independent institutions, are going to try them," he noted. According to the president, a huge effort has been invested over the past years to strike a heavy blow against organized crime. "I think we have done that in the best way possible, hitting all the points of organized crime within the society," he remarked. “The world still faces different challenges, just like Serbia,” Tadic asserted. "The fight against terrorism, which is being given a serious blow these days, and the fight against organized and all other forms of crime, including corruption, are requirements for peace, stability and economic prosperity," he believes. The ceremony celebrating the day and the patron saint of the anti-terrorist unit was attended by officials of the military, police and Security-Information Agency (BIA), as well as many foreign diplomats, including U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick and Russian Ambassador Alexandr Konuzin.
